THE CATHOLIC MINISTRY APPEAL:

Two weeks ago I asked, "How many counties are in the Diocese of Saint Petersburg." No one seemed to know the correct answer. Our diocese is made up of five counties (Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus). There is a great deal of growth happening in Florida, especially in central Florida. And there are also many people who come down here during the winter months. Many of them are homeless people who are trying to get away from the extreme cold.

It seems that many people also have no clue what the annual appeal is used to support. One very important ministry is to the 'Homeless'. During the year 2022, our diocese housed and sheltered over 4200 homeless people throughout the year. This was all provided for by the Catholic Ministry Appeal. In addition to their housing, the diocese provided over 183,000 meals to the homeless population. That is truly a great blessing to the people.

There are approximately 75 churches in our diocese and also a few mission parishes. And everyone is given a certain goal to help support the diocesan run ministries. My parish raised 84% of our goal last year. And that was raised by only 24% of my community. The remaining 76% of my community did not contribute to the annual appeal. They did not provide housing or food for the homeless. Think about that.

How often have you driven down the road or stopped at a stop light and wondered whether you should help that person? Do you just 'drive by'? Do you ignore them? If you give to the Catholic Ministry Appeal, you can take comfort knowing that you did help to provide housing, shelter and food for them. At times when I see them, I look in my car for any spare change. But I don't keep money in my car. And so I get an empty feeling at times. And many people wonder, "Should I give them anything? Maybe they're just going to buy alcohol or drugs." Well, giving to the Catholic Ministry Appeal means you are ensuring that you are not supporting any bad habits.

Let me be clear to you. You will be judged. There will be a separation between the 'sheep and the goats'. The distinction is based upon whether you took care of the least of the brethern.

"Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?" The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matt. Ch 25.

Jesus the Christ associates with the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless, the naked, the sick and those in prison. And he didn't just say it. He did it. He was born homeless!! They were the first ones that he ministered to by becoming one of them. It was part of The Plan. We should not scorn the homeless but rather take pity on them and remember 'there but for the grace of God go I'.
Please prayfully consider supporting the Catholic Ministry Appeal for our parish. I truly want to make our goal. And there are various other important ministries that are supported as well. Thank you for your generosity in serving the Lord's people.

LA CAMPAÑA PARA LOS MINISTERIOS CATÓLICOS:

Hace dos semanas pregunté: "¿Cuántos condados hay en la Diócesis de San Petersburg?" Nadie parecía saber la respuesta correcta. Nuestra diócesis está compuesta por cinco condados (Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando y Citrus). Hay gran crecimiento en Florida, especialmente en el centro de Florida. Y también hay muchas personas que vienen aquí durante los meses de invierno. Muchos de ellos son personas sin hogar que están tratando de alejarse del frío extremo.

Parece que muchas personas tampoco tienen idea de lo que la campaña apoya anualmente. Un ministerio muy importante es para las "personas sin hogar". Durante el año 2022, nuestra diócesis albergó a más de 4200 personas sin hogar durante todo el año. Todo esto fue provisto por la Campaña del Ministerio Católico. Además de viviendas, la diócesis proporcionó más de 183,000 comidas a la población sin hogar. Eso es realmente una gran bendición para la gente.
Hay aproximadamente 75 iglesias en nuestra diócesis y también algunas parroquias misioneras. Y a todos se les da una cierta meta para ayudar a apoyar los ministerios diocesanos. ¿Con qué frecuencia ha conducido por la carretera o se ha detenido en un semáforo y se ha preguntado si debería ayudar a esa persona? ¿Simplemente 'conduces'? ¿Los ignoras? Si dona a la Campaña del Ministerio Católico, puede consolarse sabiendo que ayudó a proporcionarles vivienda, refugio y alimentos. A veces, cuando los veo, busco en mi auto cualquier cambio de repuesto. Pero no guardo dinero en mi auto. Y entonces tengo una sensación de vacío a veces. Y muchas personas se preguntan: "¿Debo darles algo? Tal vez solo van a comprar alcohol o drogas". Bueno, dar a la Campaña del Ministerio Católico significa que te estás asegurando de que no estás apoyando ningún mal hábito.

Permítanme ser claro con ustedes. Serás juzgado. Habrá una separación entre las "ovejas y las cabras". La distinción se basa en si cuidaste al menor de los hermanos.

"Entonces los justos le responderán: 'Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos hambriento y te alimentamos, o sediento y te dimos de beber? ¿Cuándo te vimos como un extraño y te invitamos a entrar, o necesitado de ropa y vestido? ¿Cuándo te vimos enfermo o en prisión y fuimos a visitarte?" El Rey responderá: "En verdad les digo, todo lo que hiciste por uno de estos hermanos míos más pequeños, lo hiciste por mí". Mat. Cap. 25.

Jesús el Cristo se asocia con los hambrientos, los sedientos, los sin hogar, los desnudos, los enfermos y los que están en prisión. Y no solo lo dijo. Lo hizo. ¡¡Nació sin hogar!! Ellos fueron los primeros a los que ministró al convertirse en uno de ellos. Era parte del Plan. No debemos despreciar a las personas sin hogar, sino más bien apiadarnos de ellas y recordar "allí sino por la gracia de Dios voy yo".

Por favor, considere en oración apoyar la Campaña del Ministerio Católico para nuestra parroquia. Realmente quiero lograr nuestro objetivo. Y hay varios otros ministerios importantes que también son apoyados. Gracias por su generosidad al servir al pueblo del Señor.
